scenes from the central states fair in rapid city.

i. Piedmont's Jenny Bertsch, 8, holds Little Black, her Bantam chicken, during the 4-H judging for the chicken division at the Central States Fair in Rapid City. To train for the judging, Bertsch took Little Black outside every day, made sure Little Black was comfortable around her cats and dogs, and sometimes caught and fed grasshoppers for her chicken. For the past few months, Bertsch taught and trained Little Black to stand on her arm. Sunday was Bertsch's first entry at a 4-H competition and was awarded a purple ribbon. "I got a little nervous," Bertsch said. "I though I might mess up and the chicken would fly off my arm."
