The classroom side of Boot Camp has finished, so now I am a Columbia Missourian reporter for the remainder of the week. Saturday morning I went to the Columbia Public Library for a potential story about adopting pets; then in the afternoon I frequented the news room for a little writing and editing. In the end, after one day as a reporter, I already have an article and two photos published. It appears my pictures are not on the Missourian's online edition, but they are up on the Missourian's eMprint edition. eM is free to register and download; it is basically a PDF file that looks like a print paper, but allows for more multimedia. If you choose to sign up, download today's edition and click the link for the "Keeping the Pace with Peace" article. From there, click on the pages 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc. I have two photographs.
Savor these photos, because my work will most likely not appear in the Missourian for another year; once I take my photo reporting course.

A few things:
One, put a link to Big in Japan up on your site. The least you could do, right? Sheesh.
Two, that article was one-sided in a shockingly egregious way. Yes, I know this has nothing to do with your photos, but I'm disappointed that this kind of bullshit comes out of a graduate journalism school. Hello, Editors! They quote one rabbi, and make no other efforts to present even a facade of objectivity. Regardless of my opinion on the situation, it's clear to anybody who can rub two brain cells together over a pile to spark a fire that the writing here is Badly Done. What dreck!
And you can quote me on that.
Three, your photos look good. I notice that you opted to not add in any extra smoke, which indicates that you're already ahead of the game, and you haven't even started your "real" classes yet!
Four, you really should change the name of your blog to "Hangin' at Mo's," which is far more colloquially accurate, and sounds better regardless.
Th-th-that's all for now,

Regarding your article, is it Missourian style to lead with something other than the name and death info for obits? Other than that, it read like a good start. Do they let you tackle living subjects as well? :)

Requests must be made for all links to personal blogs or webpages on 'Hangin' at Mo's'. They also undergo thorough screenings.
As for the article "Keeping the Pace with Peace", it was more unbiased than it appears. First, there was no opposition protest at the march. Second, there is only one rabbi in the mid-Missouri area, and he also speaks for Israeli affairs. So considering there was no pro-Israeli presence, the reporters did make an effort to seek the other side's viewpoint.
Then the writers either should've made an effort to include the population disparity in the story, or contacted anybody else who's Jewish. It's never good to have one side of a story represented by only one person; at the very least, it smacks of laziness.
